What is in our food and why.
Beef and Vegetable Meat Loaf:
Beef, green beans, spinach, broccoli, beef liver, sweet potato, carrot, apple, eggs, parsley, whole ground flax seed, apple cider vinegar, brewer's nutritional yeast, eggshell powder, kelp powder, alfalfa powder, Vitamin D3, Vitamin E, Selenium (essential micronutrient).
Beef: Our beef comes from a local butcher, who obtains his beef from a single source farm. This means all his cuts can be traced back to a particular cow and its parentage. This is high quality meat that is intended for human consumption.
Green beans: Green beans are a good source of vitamin E, niacin, calcium and other minerals as well as contributing to the protein in a meal.
Spinach: Spinach is extremely rich in antioxidants, has a high nutritional value, and provides many minerals and vitamins needed in a dogs diet.
Broccoli: Broccoli is high in vitamins, nutrients and dietary fiber. In humans, broccoli is a potent modulator of the innate immune response system with anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-cancer activity, as well as helping to prevent heart disease.
Beef liver: Beef liver is a rich source of minerals and vitamins that are required in the dogs diet. Vitamin B12 is obtained primarily from the addition of beef liver and thus we are not required to supplement this important vitamin in the food – it comes naturally from their food consumption.
Sweet potato: Sweet potatoes are ranked as having one of the highest nutritional values of all vegetables. They are an excellent source of vitamins, and help to maintain proper blood sugar levels. In animals, the sweet potato has shown to stabilize blood sugar level and to lower insulin resistance. They are an excellent provider of beta carotene.
Carrot: Carrots get their bright orange colour from the carotene they contain, which is metabolized into Vitamin A when consumed. Carrots are a great source of dietary fiber, antioxidants and minerals.
Apple: Research shows that apples may reduce the risk of some cancers, and are a rich source of some antioxidant compounds. They contribute minerals to the overall diet as prepared.
Eggs: Some consider the egg to be the closest thing to a perfect protein source available from nature. They supply essential amino acids and several vitamins and minerals. We also obtain our calcium source from our eggs, by cooking the shells and grinding them to provide egg shell powder.
Parsley: Parsley is an excellent source of Vitamin K, rich in Vitamin A and C, along with other vitamins and minerals, including iron. It also contains flavonoids that act as antioxidants. It has traditionally been accepted that humans can use parsley to freshen bad breath.
Whole ground flax seed: Flax seeds have a nutty flavour and contains the omega-3 fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). Flax seed is a rich source of lignans; lignans are phytoestrogens – compounds that have been shown to protect against certain kinds of cancer. The lignans and ALA help prevent inflammation that affects the body’s immune system.
Brewer's Yeast: Brewer's yeast is packed full of minerals, amino acids, protein, trace minerals, and many of the B complex vitamins. It contains all of the essential amino acids, 17 vitamins and 14 minerals. It helps to regulate proper metabolism, contains chromium (helps regulate blood sugar) and fiber, as well as RNA.
Apple Cider Vinegar: We use certified organic raw apple cider vinegar (with "mother") that has not been filtered or pasteurized. It contains pectins, beneficial bacteria and enzymes which aid in digestion and deter harmful bacteria and yeast growth in the gut. There are claims that it will also help in nutrient absorption.
Kelp Powder: Kelp is an excellent herbal source of calcium, magnesium, sodium and iodine, as well as trace minerals. Iodine is essential to normal thyroid function. Kelp contains algin, which functions to absorb toxins from the bowels and digestive tract, thus leaving less toxins entering the circulatory system.
